The Pause:
Emotional Agility for Leaders

This FREE 60-minute webinar covers The Pause Practice: what it is, why emotional agility depends on it, and what changes in your leadership when you can interrupt autopilot and consciously choose your next step.

The Pause Practice and Why it Counts

Listen in for a quick overview of the Pause Practice Webinar.

The Pause: Emotional Agility for Leaders

If you've found your way to this page, I imagine you've found yourself in a situation where someone says something, and before you've even thought about it, you've already unconsciously reacted. Whether it was:

  • A sharp reply,

  • Defensiveness when you got feedback,

  • Not managing a performance conversation as well as you wanted

  • Going quiet when you wanted to speak up, or

  • Losing your footing in a public meeting, when pressure about a change or the political climate gets tense,

  • Saying yes when you really meant no.

Most of us know how we want to show up with other people. But in the moments that matter, our autopilot reactions get there first, and then we're left reflecting on why we couldn't say or do what we knew we wanted to.

What you'll learn

  • What the pause actually is. The difference between a performative pause (looking calm) and an integrative pause (actually returning to choice), and why only one of them improves your decisions.

  • Why emotional agility is a leadership capacity. Emotional agility isn't about controlling emotion. It's about working with it to guide decisions, build trust and respond with clarity.

  • The Pause Practice Framework. An introduction to the five steps: Notice, Label, Regulate, Track, Capitalize.

  • Why your state becomes the room's state. How teams read and mirror a leader's internal state, and what that does to trust, candor and decision quality.

  • Where the cycle breaks. The step most leaders skip, and what it costs them.

What you'll take away

  • A precise language for what happens to you under pressure.

  • A clear way to tell a pause that looks steady from one that actually is.

  • The five-step Pause Practice Framework in outline.

  • A short reflection to identify the trigger that shows up most consistently in your leadership right now.

  • The Pause Practice Quick Reference Card, a two-minute daily check-in you can use the same day.

The Moment between Stimulus and Response

  • Pause is what creates space between what happens and what you do next.

  • That space is where you can notice what's going on in you and around you, and then consciously choose a response, a decision or a behavior that reflects who you actually want to be.

  • And it's something you can practice, so the next time you find yourself in a complicated situation, you can respond in a way that's more aligned with who you want to be.

What our students say

“Aang Lakey's teaching isn't just theoretical — the framework feels deeply practical. I now catch myself noticing internal patterns, emotional cues, and misalignments between what I intend and how I act. The guided reflections and real-world applications helped me build a more conscious, grounded leadership presence. Highly recommend to anyone who wants to lead with authenticity and presence.”

Kathy G.E.

So grateful I took this course. It helped me unlearn old leadership habits that were reactive and instead learn to pause, reflect, and realign. The framework Aang teaches is super powerful — I use it in stressful meetings, in team conversations, and even in day-to-day decision making. What I love most is how this isn't just about being better, but being more true to my values. Incredible course.”
